at a restaurant in the ‘hood of my parents, busan, korea.
rice is served in a very hot stone bowl. you need to scoop the rice
out of the hot bowl at the beginning of the meal (to prevent burning),
and instead pour some water in the hot bowl. put the lid back on. by
the end of the meal, the stone bowl produces nicely ’smoke scented’
rice water (shung-nyung).

When its sunny, grannies in the building come and sit here and would talk to whoever pass by them.
‘where are these chairs from? Who brought them here by the entrance?’
‘dont know exactly, but they were originally destined to the recycling center (which will break them into pieces rather than reuse them).’
