If you have it in your hand while you're in a line-up at customs you WILL be noticed. Sometimes I ask myself if the aspect of the passport could trigger a different (positive or negative?) behavior in the border officer. But as I write this, I wonder if maybe the solution is really to have separate classes of passports with different privileges ...
