a quite and well behaved baby (relatively speaking) was sitting two

seats away from me in the plane. a good idea. i actually even wanted

to have a baby to play with in the plane!

daily mail’s second page was featuring this big news about a penguin

couple giving birth to another chick, overcoming the trauma of their

’stolen’ first chick a few months ago.

a british author who just published a book titled ‘house of orphans’.

obviously the story is set in Finland.

she lived in finland in her 20’s (now she’s 50 something) teaching

english for two years. excerpts of her description of finland from

guardian:

“brief, astonishingly beautiful baltic summers, and sombre baltic

winters. the world becomes completely frozen and shut up. people’s

faces seem blank, till in spring they grow more expressive”

“even city-centered people want to return to nature. summer cottages

aren’t only for the rich, and people have the right to roam, to pick

berries and gather mushrooms. that closeness to the natural world is

very precious.”

lots of leg room and in addition a good view of people’s faces and

body language coming to the toilet.
