Me 2!
Don’t forget to chop off those new kids and distribute them to friends / family / co-workers…etc.
Looks like a Chlorophytum comosum? Excellent plant. I believe NASA has taken a look at it (in the contect of Mars voyage research) as it detoxifies formaldehyde from indoor air.
How much formaldehyde is there in indoor air?
See the EPA page on it at http://www.epa.gov/iaq/formalde.html.
“In homes, the most significant sources of formaldehyde are likely to be pressed wood products made using adhesives that contain urea-formaldehyde (UF) resins.” and “Average concentrations in older homes without UFFI are generally well below 0.1 (ppm). In homes with significant amounts of new pressed wood products, levels can be greater than 0.3 ppm.”
Probably less a problem nowadays (at least when buying furniture from reputable manufacturers) but used to be a real problem at least in the 80s.
Does not hurt to grow the plant though =)
